Swiss Chalet

The interiors for this charming 700-square-foot chalet — perched on a scenic mountainside near Verbier, high in the Swiss Alps . This design-build project was a decade-long labour of love for her gentleman-builder Swiss-Canadian client. His inspiration was a traditional Swiss chalet that incorporated modern amenities, notably more windows than is typical here to flood the main rooms with light and afford spectacular alpine views. The interior is cozy yet contemporary, and effortlessly liveable, which resonates with the age-old Swiss aesthetic. The rich wood accents are paired with rugged materials like leather, stone, and hide. Splashes of Swiss red, ski-themed motifs, and playful lighting drive home the wintry ethos.

Upstairs, in bedrooms tucked under eaves and lit by clerestory windows, beds were layered in luxe linens and plump duvets — everything needed to nestle in for long, winter nights. Cheery plaid pillows, pretty vintage quilts, and retro ski posters.

At Christmastime, Romina introduced natural accents that speak to the mountainside locale — fragrant evergreen clippings, clusters of pinecones and a few extra hits of red for good measure.
